Opponents to the recently proposed expansion of the 5-cent bottle deposit say they are worried an extra tax will drive up the cost of beverages when shoppers are already facing increasing prices at the supermarket, The Daily Item’s Matt Tempesta reported. Representatives such as John Keenan, D-Salem, asked his fellow lawmakers why they couldn’t consider increasing the use of recycling bins and creating campaigns to educate the public about recycling.
